Once again Colorado is in the news! On April 17, our Governor Bill Owens signed HB 1346 into law at 12:20 p.m. making the mineral.....are you ready.... Rhodochrosite..... the official state mineral! How we went so long (years it was) without a state mineral is beyond me. Oh, we had a state bird, state flower and even state fossil (the stegosaurous, of coursosaurous!)
Miners have been digging up Rhodochrosite from mines in Colorado since the 1800s. Back then, the rose colored mineral was ground up and used by women for rouge. Well, right then and there should have been good enough reason the make it the state mineral. If it was good enough for whores, it should be good enough for Colorado! Many of you know about the massive mines underneath Rocky Flats. I was just sure that I must have some of this fabulous mineral buried somewhere underneath my palace. So I sent my mining team down for a little dig. Up until a few days ago, the largest hunk of Rhodochrosite crystal resided in the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. It's called the "Alma King" which was found in the Sweet Home Mine in 1992. And let me tell you, this thing is a monster! Well, as I said, "Up until a few days ago..." That's because my miners made an even larger discovery....a Rhodochrosite crystal that rivals even the Alma King himself. It seems the effects of my plutonium rays even reach deep within the earth. My miners came back with stories of crystals of monsterous proportions while underneath the palace. But the most amazing thing they brough back from their expedition is what I now call the "Alma Queen". Not one to keep my gems and treasures to myself, I had my Chief Gemologist fashion the Rhodochrosite Alma Queen into a crystalicious headdress right away. Well, it was not long before Governor Bill Owens was knocking on my door to see the Alma Queen, now adorned upon my head. He was so impressed by the discovery, that he has asked me to be the official Rhodochrosite postergirl and spokesmodel for the state of Colorado. I am now booked for many appearances and speaking engagements throughout the country to promote our new state mineral. It is all so very exciting! |
